| Q. I have a lung problem which can make me cough of a night ,will this be a problem with the oracle mask? |
(Posted: 15th Nov, 2005) |
A. The oracle mask is designed to sit in your mouth like a snorkle does.
If you cough, you would probably need to take the mask off to do so.
This mask is only recommended for use on high humidification settings, which may make your cough better or worse depending on what causes the irritation.
You would probably be better off trying a traditional full face mask that allows your mouth to open and close without needing to take the mask off. |

| Q. Can I still use this mask if you do not have a humidifer on my cpap machine if not apart from full face mask is there anything other apart from chin straps i can use as i am a cronic mouth breather which i feel negates the benifit i get from using a cpap machine? |
(Posted: 8th Oct, 2007) |
A. We would suggest trying a full face mask, before the Oracle as most people cannot tolerate this mask very well.
A humidifier is always preferable for mouth breathers as it helps stop the mouth from drying out, increasing comfort and patient tolerance. |

Q. I have tried four different types of masks.
Each one caused a promblem, full face could not get a good seal without having straps very tight. I do breath through my mouth a lot. Could this be the answer? |
(Posted: 13th Dec, 2007) |
A. Maybe.......
The Oracle is "an aquired taste" as one of our patients puts it. The biggest problem is the salivation caused by the silicone flap inside your mouth, so we recommend trying one first before buying, to see if you can tolerate it.
As a mouth breather you may be best to try several of the full face masks (Resmed, Fisher Paykel, Respironics models)
before going to the Oracle. Each mask best fits slightly different facial contours, so a more comfortable solution may exist in this type of mask.
You may also need to shave prior to using a full face mask to get the best fit with the lowest strap pressure (something I have to do myself).
Sorry to sound negative about the Oracle, but this is the reality based on our experience. |
