| Q. Can you please advise what the difference is between an M series with C-Flex versus A-Flex? |
(Posted: 23rd April, 2008) |
A. Short version is that AFlex adds the comfort of a more gradual change in pressure, like that found in CFlex, to the transition between exhalation and inhalation. Thus the entire breathing process under CPAP becomes more comfortable, and therefore more easily tolerated by users.
For most existing users, this change will not have a lot of effect, but for the new user, it could be enough to keep a lot more patients on track. That said, all we users know how important comfort is to our ongoing compliance.
Other improvements were made to the "Automatic" algorithm, as Respironics always seems to look for ways to improve their machines.

| Q. I have a new Remstar m serious that is on automatic. It makes far more noise than my fisher & Paykel and is keeking my wife awake. Is there away to quiten the machine?? |
(Posted: 11th August, 2008) |
A. 1. Put the machine on the floor, or close to it, so that the edge of the bed is between the machine and her ears. (Stop the sound waves travelling in a direct line to her ears.)
2. Turn off/down the CFlex/AFlex option as the fluctuation noise that this causes will irritate some people.
3. Make sure that the humidifier chamber is seating properly into the humidifier, as this can make a distracting whooshing noise.
4. Don't use the machine and see if she prefers the noise of your snoring (I used this option with my wife, and she just loves the machine now :> ) |
