A. Yes. Congestion is commonly associated with using a CPAP machine without a humidifier. This is a particular problem in the colder months. Humidification often completely removes this problem.

A. With an S6 you will need a stand-alone humidifier, as Resmed do not offer a humidifer that fits onto that machine.

Most patients purchase the Fisher Paykel HC150, which we offer at $350.

It is shown in the Humidifier section of our website.

Q. What happens if the water runs out of your humidifer and it runs on empty for hours? (Posted: 1st July, 2008)
A. Normally nothing, the temperatures are quite low, just above ambient temperatures. Further, these low temperatures will have little effect on the actual chamber, even if it is empty.

What will happen though is your nose will become quite dry, and may even block up, due to the ongoing dry air. This dryness may also occur in your mouth if you mouth breathe.

Q. How do you clean scale in the humidifer. Our water is very hard? (Posted: 16th Dec, 2009)
A. As a desperation measure you can use a calcium and lime remover (CLR) to remove most scale, or whatever method you use to descale your kettle. Please rinse out extremely well after doing this.

Long term, use a vinegar solution weekly, as mentioned in the used manuals, to minimise this problem.
